Top tips for referencing
  • Check your referencing style: Harvard, APA, Chicago, IEEE, MHRA, MLA, OSCOLA or Vancouver
  • Record the details of source materials as you find them. This means they will be ready for you, when the times comes to compile your list of full references
  • Form your own opinions, go beyond restating the points from your sources: bring together your findings (synthesise the information)
  • Clarify the details of your source material: for some sources you may need to dig a little deeper to uncover the author's name, publication/last update date etc.
  • Be patient: leave enough time to record details accurately, so as to avoid rushing to finish the compilation of references before a deadline
  • Help is available, reach out to your teachers and subject librarians
